Silver Line Theatre Exchange is inviting motivated high school and college students to join the backstage team for our professional holiday production. As a Run Crew Intern, you’ll gain real-world theatre experience, receive hands-on training, and work directly with our Production Stage Manager and creative team.

Availability required:
• Tech Week: December 8–11
• Performances: December 12–13, 18–21, and 26–27

This is an unpaid internship, ideal for students looking to strengthen their portfolios, earn community experience, and work on a high-level production.

Run Crew Responsibilities

1. Pre-Show Duties

House opens in ~30 minutes to curtain.

  • Preset all scenic elements

    • Ensure all set pieces are spiked and correctly placed.

    • Check that snow machines are filled and functional.

  • Preset props

    • Place all hand props on labeled prop tables backstage.

    • Set consumables in correct quantities.

    • Quick-check anything that gets “used up” each performance.

  • Safety checks

    • Sweep and mop (dry) the stage.

    • Verify spike marks, glow tape, and backstage lighting.

    • Confirm that backstage paths are clear and that snow residue is swept from previous performances.

  • Tech coordination

    • Ensure all battery operated technical elements on the stage are fully charged and ready to be switched on.

2. During the Show

  • Execute all scene changes

    • Strike props during scene changes. Reset set pieces.

    • Handle any “snow reset” between scenes (shaking off snow cloths, sweeping borders).

  • Operate snow effects (if not on the board operator)

    • Activate/stop snow machines on cue.

    • Manage snow paper drops.

  • Maintain prop tracking

    • Hand props to actors for entrances with tight timing.

    • Receive props the moment actors exit and reset to the correct table side.

  • Monitor consumables

  • Manage quick changes

    • Assist with coats, scarves, hats, boots, etc.

  • Track accessories

    • Hang and organize sweat-prone pieces to dry between scenes.

  • Deal with emergencies

    • Fix ripped seams or broken snaps if repairable mid-show.

    • Swap to contingency items if needed.

  • Maintain headset discipline with the Stage Manager.

  • Call clear for all transitions and acknowledge cues.

  • Report any issues immediately at safe moments: broken props, stuck scenery, slippery spots, wardrobe malfunctions, actor safety concerns.

3. Post-Show Duties

  • Reset the stage

    • Sweep up snow.

    • Return all scenic units to correct starting positions.

  • Props & costumes

    • Account for all props.

    • Collect laundry, wipe down winter accessories, hang coats to dry.

  • Recharge and reset

    • Recharge all battery-operated technical elements and headsets

    • Prep snow machines for the next day and refill as needed.

  • Daily notes with SM

    • Report repairs needed: broken latches, loose casters, ripped items, low supplies.
