Mission and Values

Our Mission

We are building a community that is conscious and compassionate. We teach, perform, read, and discuss theatre that invigorates, celebrates, and enhances understanding of ourselves and others through a shared experience.

Our Values

Statement Against Asian Hate

We are horrified by the rise in hate and harassment against Asian-Americans in the United States. As an organization who encourages the positive exchange of ideas between communities, SLTE stands in solidarity with Asian-Americans in denouncing the attacks against them.

Statement of Inclusion

We believe that theatre should be a space where every voice is heard and every story celebrated. We do not discriminate against race, creed, color, age, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, neurodiversity, or disability. We celebrate these differences and count them as our greatest strength. When we unite our voices in a shared story, we begin to heal wounds and create a more equitable world.

Black Lives Matter

The theatre should always be a safe place in our communities. Our work in the classroom and on the stage connects us, inspires us, and teaches us. To our Black friends: SLTE stands with you in the movement towards greater equality, equity, inclusion, and justice. Your voices and stories matter. Black Lives Matter.
